Events 2009: Review

October: CMS welcomes a new class of Masters students


We are delighted to welcome a new class of students to our Master's Program in Historical Urban Studies! On October 14 we held an introductory meeting at the Center for Metropolitan Studies and introduced the professors and staff. The reception following was also an exhibition in conjunction with the third-semester students' Ringbahn project. Read more here (in German).

October: "Railways, Real Estate & the Re-Making of Cities"

The symposium "Railways, Real Estate  & the Re-Making of Cities" took place on October 16-17 at the Center for Metropolitan Studies. The call for papers concluded on July 1. Read more about the symposium.

September: Rebuilding European Cities

On September 23-25, 2009, Prof. Georg Wagner-Kyora, professor at CMS, hosted the conference "Rebuilding European Cities: Reconstruction-Policy since 1945" at the Universität Hamburg. Read more about the program here.

June: 5th Annual Conference

The 5th Annual Conference of the Transatlantic Graduate Program took place at the Center for Metropolitan Studies, June 4-6, 2009. The aim of this conference was to use the concept of Ausnahmezustand to illuminate urban conditions and imaginaries and to investigate unveiled mechanisms and structures in order to gain a deeper understanding of how power functions in transforming the urban substance.
